Barrington Greek Revival
BEFORE
Project overview
With a picturesque backyard, but lacking a view from within the house, this transformation of a 1860s Greek Revival home commenced with the design of a spacious great room addition and new dining area situated at the rear of the house. A new entry porch, featuring period-appropriate leaded beveled glass gable and an oversized custom wood door, redefines the approach to this magnificent home. Additionally, a new stairway was reconfigured to face the entryway, optimizing circulation throughout the house. This extensive renovation encompasses a large chef’s kitchen, a great room with a beamed ceiling and expansive glass overlooking the private yard. The raised stone patio, complete with a sitting wall and a custom-built stone curved bench, enhances the outdoor entertainment value. Finally, the entire exterior underwent a redesign and construction process to reflect the home’s original Greek Revival history, while incorporating intricate details to distinguish it from its neighboring properties. In the client’s words, Thor Studios “transformed our home from the biggest eyesore on the street, to the jewel of the neighborhood!”
