Farmhouse Revival
BEFORE
Project overview
Contrary to the initial impression of a complete demolition, Thor Studios executed a remarkable transformation to this 1900s Greek Revival, preserving its original architectural elements while constructing a picturesque farmhouse-style residence all within its existing footprint. The design process commenced with the removal of the majority of the first floor interior walls, thereby expanding the living space while simultaneously supporting the second floor with concealed steel columns and beams. Subsequently, the existing stairway was eliminated, and a newly configured stairway was repositioned within the footprint to optimize circulation and harmonize with the second floor layout.
The renovated home now features an open first floor plan that seamlessly connects the newly constructed galley kitchen to the dining and living room areas. Additionally, a much-needed storage and bathroom have been incorporated. On the second floor, a new laundry room was installed, utilizing storage designed to accommodate under the eaves in previously unused spaces, as well as three bedrooms and a full bathroom.
The existing porch was removed and rebuilt with a standing seam roof and a beamed entry gable over the original entrance door. The porch ceiling was constructed from reclaimed existing second floor flooring. Ultimately, the porch has been transformed into an inviting entrance to the home while maintaining the ideal spot for enjoying the Bristol 4th of July parade route.
